- Have you ever been fed up with noise caused by scooters, go-peds,
mini-motos, quad bikes or other similar vehicles?
- Have you ever been annoyed with the damage caused to parks
and public areas by these bikes?
- Has your neighbourhood or local park ever felt unsafe because
of the way people use these bikes?
You are not alone!
The Council and the Police have received many complaints relating
to off road bike nuisance and we are determined to tackle this
problem in order to improve the quality of life and safety
of local people.
Over the last two years, joint working by all the partners has
had a great deal of success in tackling this problem:
- Enforcement operations by the Police have led to arrests,
fixed penalty notices and the seizure of many bikes
- Publicity work by the Crime and Disorder Team has informed
parents and young people about the dangers and illegality of
off road bikes
- Trading Standards have taken action against retailers who
are selling unsafe bikes. No mini motos are sold from
markets run by the council
- The Leisure Department have made parks more secure and more
difficult to access for off road bikes
- Neighbourhood wardens have distributed publicity materials
and acted as the eyes and ears of the Partnership
- The Fire Service make sure that petrol stations don’t sell
petrol to people under the age of 16
As a result of this action, the number of reported incidents
is decreasing. However, more work still needs to be done in partnership
with local communities. |
