What happens when you are involved with the YOS?
Staff in the YOS will be looking to:
- Help you keep out of further trouble with the Police
- Work with you to look at why you offend and how you can change
your behaviour & support you by seeing you regularly
and listening to what you have to say
- Make sure that you keep your appointments (which will normally
be at the Youth Offending Service office)
- Give you a plan of what you will be doing during your order
(Supervision Plan)
- Give advice in areas where you may be having problems, which
will include home, school/college or work, drug or alcohol
use, relationships with other people, how you use your leisure
time
- Help you to make amends by taking part in Reparation activities
that may be run at the weekend.
- Help you carry out anything you have agreed to do
What can go wrong?
If you do not co-operate with your Youth Offending Service worker
you will be taken back to Court for being in breach of your order.
If the breach is proved, the Court may then deal with you in
some other way, such as:
- Allowing you another chance to complete your order. The court
may also impose a fine for the breach
- Re-sentencing you for the original offence. This may mean
that you get a different/longer order or a custodial sentence.
What can go right?
If you do well on your order the Youth Offending Service can contact
the Court and ask them if your order can be ended early. Your
worker will write a report for the Court explaining how well
you have done. When your order is short e.g. 3 months, there
will not be enough time to do this. |
